AASL Candidates Forum Speech - ALA Midwinter - January 17, 2010
We live in an amazing time for our profession. While we are dealing with positions being lost and budgets being cut, we also are implementing AASL’s Learning 4 Life (L4L) campaign. The Standards for the 21st Century Learner, Standards for the 21st Century Learner in Action, and Empowering Learners provide us with three powerful documents that guide us to create 21st century school library programs for students and staff.
Our challenge is to use these tools to help turn the tide. To me, the way to do that is INVOLVEMENT.
• We must be INVOLVED in our schools helping to craft 21st century school library program.
• We must be INVOLVED in working with our state and national legislators to help them see the vision of school library programs of the future.
• We must be INVOLVED in the profession. We need to be working on committees, task forces, and all the various ways we can to help make AASL, our association, even stronger.
By being INVOLVED, we can help decide the future of our profession. You can be involved by voting in the AASL election this spring! Click on any of the links to the left to learn a little bit more about my professional experiences.
I would be honored to serve you as AASL President during 2011-2012! Thank you for your consideration.
